We are creating a welcome and sustainable living environment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This building provides accessible housing that fosters independence, social connection, and a sense of belonging, while also promoting community integration and empowerment.
1651 Richfield will foster a community where residents can interact, build relationships, and engage in social, educational, and recreational activities while still attending their existing programs, employment and established activities.
Co Living
What do we mean by co-living? Co-living lets residents, or "neighbors," live in a studio or one-bedroom apartment, with either a kitchenette or a full kitchen if they want. The "co" part comes from having lots of shared spaces where you can leave your apartment to spend time with friends—whether that's watching TV, cooking meals, playing games, or just hanging out.
Service Model
We believe that every resident should have the freedom to choose who provides their support services. To ensure flexibility, the following options will be available:
This community is designed to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing not only a safe and supportive living environment but also opportunities for personal growth, community integration, and a fulfilling life. By building a community that embraces inclusivity, sustainability, and collaboration, CCHI is setting a new standard for what is possible in the world of collective, accessible housing.
Community Opportunities:
1651 will offer opportunities for residents to engage on a daily basis.
Options for community building include:
Group meals
Pizza nights
Game room
T.V. room/Movie nights
Work out room
Art studio
Music studio
Commercial Kitchen with individual cooking stations for group cooking and classes
*We are considering a variety of meal options; a grab and go breakfast and group dinners. The cost will be determined after we purchase the property.
Apartments:
Studios and One Bedroom Apartments.
Each unit features a bathroom that is fully accessible for ADA compliance, accommodating walkers and wheelchairs.
The building has elevators for individuals with mobility challenges.
Q: What is CCHI?
A: CCHI stands for Collaborative Community Housing Initiative. We are a grassroots collective made up of volunteer families with adults with Disabilities and community members who desire a new kind of community — one that is inclusive and diverse. CCHI envisions communities where individuals of all abilities live collectively, each determining their own path to a meaningful life. It is not just housing, it represents inclusive opportunities in living, working, and socializing.
Q: How big is the building?
A: Our current plan for our first building is designed to have @45-50 units.
Q: Who will live in this community?
A: Community members with disabilities from the North Shore who are able to live semi independently.
Q: What other things make this project special?
A: Advanced technology is offered in the building and in every unit to help support day to day living. Green spaces, LEED, Universal Design will be sensitive to Sensory, Mobility, Sound and Aging in Place.
Additionally, other organizations that serve the IDD population will lease space from CCHI to offer services in our building.
Q: What do you mean by Advanced Technology?
A: CCHI has investigated many different programs that offer intuitive technology options for all people to live a more supported life.
Q: Is there a staff on site to support people?
A: We envision a full time Programming Manger who offers ongoing social opportunities for the entire community. This individual coordinates the relationships with other support organizations who help facilitate the engagement of all residents and the greater community. Additionally there will be a property manager provided by the landlord. Individual service providers can be hired by residents based on need. CCHI would like to designate an apartment for an RA as well who will be on premise overnights in addition to any individual service providers residents choose.
Q: What kind of social opportunities will be offered?
A: Like most contemporary apartment environments, there will be weekly shared meals, movie nights, group discount offerings for local entertainment, pizza parties and celebrations for special occasions.
Q: How much does this cost and who is paying for it?
A: Services are separate from rent. Personal supports will be paid by the individual using their own funding. To ensure our community is a safe and welcoming place, we will function as a co-living environment. This means individuals/families will have shared ownership.

Together we can work towards making it happen!
